ENGLISH Damsons

Damsons are a traditional taste of the English summer and this quintessentially English fruit has over the years become very limited in its availability due to the sensitivity of the fruit to adverse weather conditions which can wipe out a whole crop without warning.

The Damson Orchards have been reducing and are now limited in commercial volumes to areas of Kent, Worcestershire and North West England.

We at Treelinks have for many years worked very closely with a local grower based in the Tenbury Wells area of Worcestershire and through feast and famine are able to secure and stock quantities of the fruit.

Damsons

Damsons Picked

The damson is identified by its small, oval shape (though slightly pointed at one end), smooth-textured yellow-green flesh, and skin from dark blue to indigo. The tree blossoms with small, white flowers in early April and fruit is harvested in late August or early September and is done so by the traditional hand picking methods which ensure good quality unblemished fruit.

The fruit has dark acidic skin and flesh but it is ideal for use in jams, jellies, fruit compotes or as an addition to fruit smoothies

The 2009 crop is looking very good and therefore we are highlighting this as an opportunity to utilise a very traditional fruit to develop unique products into all food sectors.

We can supply as range of formats of the product.

  1. Stone in.
  2. Roller Pitted.
  3. Organic as above

Product will be available End September early October 2009
